By slowly moving the tuning fork over the person’s aura or space around them, it can offer healing properties. How it works is that the tuning fork will be struck and held by its base or stem at a certain point over the skin, such as a chakra or acupuncture point. This non-invasive healing is actually quite scientific. In the 1960s, Manners concentrated his work on the use of sound frequencies that were being used in the treatment of various diseases.Īs pointed out by the Senses & Sciences journal, Manners realized that sound therapy stimulated the human body’s ability to heal itself. It was only in the 20 th century that tuning forks were applied to muscles and bones to create a vibration which was seen as a way to test neural pathways in the body.Īn English osteopath called Sir Peter Guy Manners is said to be the father of sound therapy from which tuning fork therapy came about. The fork was used to tune musical instruments, as the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry reports. These vibrated and produced a musical note that was of a constant pitch. It’s quite amazing to think that initially, the tuning fork was just a small instrument made of steel with two flat prongs. Was played in church and concert halls throughout Europe. Tuning forks are part of what’s known as sound therapy. Instead, turn to them when you feel you need to balance your emotional and mental energy, or if you want to encourage greater relaxation and harmony. This can make them a bit less effective if you want to relax tight, sore muscles. It’s good to bear in mind that unweighted tuning forks are subtler when compared to weighted forks. These tuning forks are usually used for physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental awareness. These tuning forks don’t have weights attached to them and they’re commonly used around the body and ears to balance the body’s energy, instead of being placed directly on the body. They generate stronger and deeper vibrations than unweighted forks, although they tend to be more expensive. You can use them directly in the area of the body that you want to treat. These are used on the body to relieve pain, such as inflammatory pain from health conditions like arthritis. These are tuning forks that have weights at the end of each prong. But, a much higher dose might be tolerated from HPR and the highest dose of HPR out-performed tretinoin. The results are pretty encouraging showing that " HPR had greater levels of gene transcription than retinol and RP (RP) at the same concentrations. Regarding anti-aging, there is a pretty recent, Estee Lauder sponsored study that compared the in-vitro (not on real human beings but on skin models) collagen-boosting effectiveness of Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, tretinoin, good old retinol and retinyl palmitate (RP). Both studies found the formulas effective but they contained other things too, so it's hard to judge how well HPR did. We found two Italian studies both examining the efficacy of HPR combined with other things (retinol in both cases, and papain in one of them) for the treatment of acne. But, before you do, you have to know that the info we have about HPR at the moment is mainly from the manufacturer, whose tests may or may not be accurate or properly designed (such as controlled, double-blind and conducted on an appropriate number of people).Īs HPR is pretty new there isn't that much independent research we could find yet. These results sound sooo promising that we don't blame you if you wanna run out right now and get an HPR formula to slather on your face. Also, there was a "dramatic reduction of lines and wrinkles" after applying 0.2% HPR around the eyes twice a day for 14 days. According to the manufacturer's tests, 24 hours of an occlusive patch with 0.5% HPR resulted in significantly lower irritation than 0.5% retinol. The big promise of HPR is that it's similarly active as retinoic acid (no conversion needed, remember) but without the irritation. It binds directly to the retinoid receptors of the skin cells to work its skincare magic. Other forms of retinoids have to be converted by our metabolic machinery to do something. If you've already read our description about retinol or retinyl palmitate, you know that the active ingredient our skin cells can interpret is retinoic acid. It's a so-called retinoic acid ester, meaning that it's directly related to retinoic acid. React Native gives you a lot of code reuse, but you still have to implement separate views for iOS, Android and web. The trade-off is straightforward: PWAs let you use one codebase everywhere. I still think React Native is great, but PWAs now offer stiff competition. As React Native matured, I became more and more convinced that it was the best choice for most mobile apps. It offers almost all of the advantages of React, including use of JavaScript, an elegant component model and a rich ecosystem of complementary libraries, while generating UIs that are as smooth as slick as native… because they are native. As a long-standing fan of React, I was very excited when Facebook announced React Native in 2015. Along with older frameworks like Xamarin and newer ones like Flutter, React Native enables developers to create true native mobile UIs with a multiplatform codebase. Making a web app lets you circumvent the smartphone manufacturers and keep user payments for yourself. Since mobile web apps are just web apps, you can take advantage of the skills and experience you already have instead of having to tackle new, steep learning curves for native app development.Īnd, as I often hear when speaking with clients and prospects, there is a lot of resistance to paying the so-called "Apple tax", where you have to pay a commission of up to 30% to Apple (or Google for that matter) when collecting payments in your mobile app. In a world where recruiting developers is a daunting challenge, no one wants to have to recruit and manage additional teams for iOS and Android. Thirdly, companies often want to deploy both on mobile and on the web, which is a pain to do if your mobile app is native but basically free if it's a web app.įourthly, many companies already have teams in place with deep expertise in web app development. And we are continuing to see the steady introduction of new ideas like MobX State Tree and React Hooks that move the state of the art forward. The modern web stack is incredibly powerful and elegant compared to just a few years ago, whether you are using Angular, React, Vue or whatever amazing new framework came out since the beginning of this talk. Secondly, because the web ecosystem is so big and open, the pace of innovation is much faster than in closed ecosystems like iOS or Android. Firstly, as I have been emphasizing, they are multiplatform by nature. And yet web apps have a lot of advantages. When will Lineage W become available in Europe, North America, and other regions? NCSoft emphasizes that the focus of Lineage W is on a global market, with the letter "W" representing the word "World". So, when will Lineage W become available for the rest of the world? Let's take a look at what we know. They go by various other names, including black polished river rock and black polished beach pebblesīlack polished pebbles are quartzite stones that have been tumble-polished to give them their shine. To create a contrast, mix white marble pebbles with your black polished pebbles. If you don't need many of them, this also keeps the cost down somewhat, although they are more expensive than similar natural beach pebbles. This puts you in better control as a DIY'er. A benefit here, unlike with crushed stone, is that you can buy them by the bag. It costs more than most other types of mulch, but you recoup your expense over time because of its durability.īlack polished pebbles are highly ornamental and widely available at home improvement centers. To be on the safe side, use crushed stone only around drought-resistant plants, and do not apply it directly up against your plants.Ĭrushed stone is available at stone yards and can also be ordered through major home improvement centers you'll probably need to have it delivered (unless you own a truck). Trees and shrubs are generally tough enough that they are not bothered. This heat retention may bother some annuals and perennials. In a sunny area, stone gets hot in the summer. In contrast with grass, crushed stone offers a low-maintenance option that minimizes the mess dogs make through digging, urination, and wear and tear.Īs a mulch in planting beds, crushed stone works better in some instances than others. The stone (commonly granite) passes through a crushing machine. The end result is an aggregate of small (about 1 inch) stones with an angular shape.Īlthough it has other uses (such as underlayment for patios), crushed stone is especially useful in mulching around certain types of plants and in creating a patch of yard where dogs will be kept. While most types of mulch are organic and decompose over time, crushed stone is an inorganic type. It appears in above library.xml only because I subsequently tried out an old copy of 2.0 beta 5 to see if the crash was a new issue or not.Use your Raspberry Pi for Offline Wikipedia with Kiwix-serve. There is one thing that puzzles me: the crash in 2.0.4 occurred before I ever tried to open wikipedia_en_all_maxi_2020-06.zim in Kiwix Desktop (and Kiwix JS does not use library.xml). Maybe more robust code is needed to catch exceptions and skip the operation in course? Nevertheless, it's clearly undesirable for Kiwix Desktop to crash when encountering a buggy ZIM file, especially if it is not actually trying to load that file. On doing a full file recheck with qBitTorrent, it identified the corrupt sector and re-downloaded it. The file was readable (by both Kiwix JS and Kiwix Desktop) but it caused a crash in Kiwix Desktop (not Kiwix JS) whenever I tried to search for a title. The new full English Wikipedia ( wikipedia_en_all_maxi_2020-06.zim), which I had downloaded with a BitTorrent client, had a minor corruption issue in one of the sectors downloaded, affecting titles from Dad to Deir in the Title Pointer List (or maybe URL pointer list). I think I can now narrow this bug down to a crash while reading a corrupt ZIM archive, as you suggested. The both have similar sized soundbar and the sturdiness is average as well. GI helps to light up the scenes, and without GI you often get areas that are either too bright. In that sense, it's almost the reverse of Battlefield 5, which used ray tracing exclusively for reflections. Ray Tracing: For Nvidia RTX cards, enables or disables ray tracing-in this case, ray tracing is only used for global illumination (GI). Right click and open the two images in a new tab if you want to compare the full resolution images. Note however that even the ray traced version has many oddities, like why doesn't the gun or guitar or cup cast a shadow, other than on itself? That's because GI isn't necessarily concerned with casting shadows, but rather the default brightness from a single global light source. (You can disable motion blur completely in the config file if you prefer.)Ībove is one of the better scenes showing the difference between ray tracing and traditional rendering from Metro Exodus. This has very little effect on performance. Motion Blur: Sets the quality of motion blur to low, medium, or high. Note that enabling RTX effects is only possible if Quality is set to medium or above. Going from ultra to low will boost framerates by up to 70-80 percent (depending on your GPU and other settings), while going from ultra to extreme will drop performance about 20 percent. As expected, it has a massive impact on overall performance as well as image quality. This affects post-processing, anti-aliasing, texture and shadow resolution, lighting, shadows, and more. Quality: This is a single setting that appears to cover all of the normal 'advanced' options you see in other games. Let's quickly run through the settings and briefly list what each does, as Metro Exodus doesn't provide any explanation. There are nine graphics settings to tweak, but two of those are only for RTX cards, and two more don't affect performance or image quality much. (I was skeptical that would happen, after waiting for over five months now for the Shadow of the Tomb Raider patch.) That's the good news, but if you don't have an RTX card, there are only a few settings you can tweak.Īs with the previous Metro games, things like ambient occlusion, texture quality, etc. I gave Metro Exodus a green in our features list, mostly because it's only the second game to have public ray tracing and DLSS support-the first to have both-and it actually made it into the shipping release. The graphics settings Metro Exodus exposes are a bit odd. As our partner for these detailed performance analyses, MSI provided the hardware we needed to test Metro Exodus on a bunch of different AMD and Nvidia GPUs, multiple CPUs, and several laptops-see below for the full details, along with our Performance Analysis 101 article. |
